Because Stone Doesn’t Heal
The picture above shows some steps that appear to be melting. This sort of thing is seen in ancient monasteries or in steps left over from past civilizations that find themselves incorporated into a modern world. Many of the people who walked these steps in past generations did so barefoot. The stone steps survived though they were clearly worn down by all those passing feet. All those people died, but most of them still had their feet in pretty good condition when they did. So, why did the stone wear down in its time, but the feet didn’t wear down in their time? Because stone doesn’t heal.
There is very little that amazes me more than recovery and healing. That’s any kind of recovery. People recovering from addiction, from injury, from surgery, from past trauma, or any other kind of brokenness, they all amaze me. You all amaze me. It’s what creates growth and progress in us. It betters the lives of everyone around us. It’s what makes us superior to stone.
I’m in a stage of recovery and healing in my life now. My heart is healing from loss of blood flow and I’m going through cardiac rehab to rebuild its strength and mine. For any of you going through a phase of recovery too, know that you are doing something amazing.
